Chili Preparation & Quantity Requirements

Prepare at least 4-6 quarts of chili—enough for judging and public sampling.

Bring it fully cooked and ready to serve in a crockpot or approved warmer to maintain safe temperatures. No on-site cooking with open flames unless pre-approved by organizers.

Pro tip: Plan for crowds—great chili disappears fast!

Food Safety & Liability

Safety first: Follow local and state food handling rules. You'll sign a Food Handling and Liability Waiver upon registration.

Use gloves, clean tools, and safe practices. Staff can remove any entry that doesn't meet standards—no exceptions.

Judging Criteria

Professional judges score on a standardized system:

  • Taste and Flavor Balance: 50%
  • Texture and Consistency: 25%
  • Overall Impression: 25%

Decisions are final, but the real fun is in the tasting!
